July 9th

When Alex got to camp today and Jeff went to hand over her backpack as she was getting out of the car, she looked at him and said "I'm not carrying that." And because they were a little late, he carried it. Sucker.

We always know it's Friday when she comes home because she has "Sandcastles" on Friday (i.e., rolling around in the sandpit). I present Exhibit A (see photo above).

She made this lovely birdfeeder in woodshop. She told me to buy her "more wood chips. two wood chips. and some glue. So I can make more." Then she asked if she could put her little dolls in them. Sorry birdies....polly pocket for the win.

She also played soccer which she said she loves. They had red team and blue team and lucky for everyone around her, she was put on the red team. She said it was fun even though she "didn't kick the ball because they didn't let" her. No one puts baby in the corner....

At dismissal time, she was wearing her backpack and her sunglasses, holding her favorite counselor's hand (no, not Luke--he's just her errand boy). When they were looking for her birdfeeder she fell off the picnic table and cried for a while....until I gave her a starburst and then she miraculously recovered. (Although she had a bit of a relapse when she finished her candy and I didn't have more to give her.... funny how that happens)

And I know you are all on the edge of your seats waiting to hear about Bumbo's triumphant return to camp....alas, he did not return today. When I asked Alex if he was still sick, she said no, he was eating breakfast. Then she said he must be in Philadelphia. When I asked why he was in Philadelphia she said probably visiting his grandparents who she said probably live there. Apparently Alex has given Bumbo a colorful backstory.
